One of the most attractive benefits of being your own boss is the ability to choose your working hours. Entrepreneurs are often driven by this desire to direct their daily commitment.
Choosing your own working hours as an entrepreneur offers control over your work-life balance. As significant life changes occur, like getting married and starting a family, it becomes a great advantage to choose when you work and rest.
Types of working schedule
Depending on their lifestyle, an entrepreneur will choose the working hours that suit them best and offer the optimal balance for their lifestyle:
Early hours
For some early risers, theycan get more done in the early hours of the morning, say from 4am onwards. They might choose a trade that requires this type of shift pattern, like running a bakery.
Office hours
For some entrepreneurs, maintaining office hours (9am – 5pm) makes them most productive. Also, certain sectors demand it. For example, a b2b salesperson may telephone prospects and customers whilst they are in the office.
Later hours
Some entrepreneurs might prefer to start their working day in the afternoon, say from 12 midday. This might complement their desire to be available to fulfil parental duties, like taking their children to school in the morning.
After hours
Some entrepreneurs prefer working after office hours, say from 7pm throughout the night. These could be single or unmarried people who are happy to occupy the typical family time of the day with work. A vocation like being a software developer allows an entrepreneur to work at any time of the day or night.
Shorter working week
Some entrepreneurs find they can produce results working fewer than the typical 5 days per working week. A recent trend has been a 4 day working week.
Different day-to-day
And of course, for many entrepreneurs, having complete flexibility to vary their working week as they choose is the ultimate dream.
